Ode to the Garden:
Oh my goats and sheep what could I do? If only we had been home in time to change your minds with dogs and shouts ,you wouldn’t have stayed to chomp about.
Our garden is behind a wire fence and an electric fence for added security. But the sheep and goats said
“never mind,I’m bored and hungry and I can jump high”. Yes, many sheep and goats jumped the fence and munched their way down the rows, they browsed and chomped and made a mess. The Okra, beans and eggplants payed the highest price, with the peppers, cabbage and turnip tops looking very sad. The animals did some damage to the tomato plants and to some of the tomatillos, but they didn’t destroy or eat any of our volunteer squash plants that emerged from our compost pile.
We will be putting up more tall wire fence that the animals can’t climb or jump over, keeping them farther away from the gardens and greenhouse.
The only good thing that happened was the greenhouse was closed up!
