The apples and pears this year have been fantastic!Wild grapes have been very prolific(once I discovered where they were hiding)and the damson plums have been delicious but expensive. White pumpkins have arrived and I made two batches of pumpkin pickles during the week.  I am planning to make apple pie filling, lemon pear cardamom preserves and maybe pickled pears during the next 3 days.

Cucumbers and Tomatoes are coming out of my ears….so to speak!

Ah….canning season in full swing. I just wish the Red Sox were good enough

to get to the World series.It’s not that I am a rabid baseball fan, but my husband and I listen to the game while I can and we both miss it when there is no Red Sox game.  When the play-offs start I will be canning late into the night , listening  to a Baseball game with teams I do not care about.

So back to canning….

It is amazing how long it takes to process 213lbs of plum tomatoes before they start to deteriorate. Last year the tomato harvest

occurred over a month and half period ,but this year everything seems to be ripening at the same time. It is awesome to have so much wonderful produce,but so little time to complete this herculean task.

In between preparation of the tomatoes and  roasting them, I am trying to make jelly,jam,pectin

and pickles……….But the bounty will soon decrease and the pace will slow…….I hope.

The Harvest is in full swing!

I have picked 37lbs of Raspberries, 47lbs cucumbers ,24lbs of the cucumbers are for pickling and the rest are for Indian Style Cucumber Relish and Cucumbers with lemon. My neighbor Patty has been selling me her greenhouse tomatoes which I took possession of  today,37lbs of small paste tomatoes and  35lbs of big paste tomatoes. My weekend has been filled with roasting tomatoes, canning pizza passata, preparing tomatoes and ingredients for Barbecue Relish. Tomorrow I will be making pickles, more pickles, then back to the tomatoes and barbecue relish.

I am looking at 2 boxes of Plum tomatoes one box weighs 34 lbs and the other box weighs 37lbs. I also received 21lbs of baby beets and have 10lbs of cucumbers that Brandon is planning to make sour pickles for home use only. It will be a late night!

Time to Pick Raspberries and Blueberries!

It was 67 degrees when we went out and started to pick at 7:30am.  The blueberries weren’t quite ripe , so Brandon only picked 4.5 lbs, I didn’t do much better with the raspberries and picked 3.25lbs.  Later I went out to get some grocery items and stopped at Apple Hill in Concord, NH and they had a box of nectarines that were seconds, so when I got home I took some of the raspberries and the nectarines and made  Nectarines in Raspberry syrup (Compote). I think the next batch I should thicken the syrup some more before adding the Nectarines.

I also made Cucumber pickles with lemon and tomorrow I plan to make Barbecue Relish, which is Zucchini based.
